Wild, beautiful, eye-catching, this is one of the oldest Iranian carpet designs. Imagine a weaving artist creating a work of art without cardboard in the virgin nature of Khorassan: she let her subconscious choose the colors and her heart fill in the lines! This drawing, called Muharram, means prayer in the language of the Sassanian Empire (224 to 651 AD). In Persia, this motif was so popular that more than two-thirds of the clothes, carpets and curtains painted in the oldest version of the Iranian art book were created in this style.
